"Menser Inc Celebrates 115 Years of Plumbing and Heating in Somerset County"

Menser Inc is celebrating two huge milestones this year, Matthew and Jennifer Bittinger purchased Menser Inc on September 30, 2019 and 115 years in business as a family owned and operated plumbing and heating company. Jennifer is the 4th generation of the Menser family as owner and operator of Menser Inc. Matthew and Jennifer each have over 22 years of experience at Menser Inc. They want to take the strong foundation that has been established over the past 115 years and expand to better serve their customers. In 1905, the family’s patriarch founded W.E. Menser Company a plumbing and heating business in 1905. He was a master plumber. At the time many homes did not have indoor plumbing. He would receive his materials by train car. In July of 1973 his son and daughter in law, Kenneth W. and Margaret F. Menser took over the company and renamed it Kenneth W. Menser Plumbing and Heating. They successfully carried on the company and trained their children Todd E. Menser and Marilyn M (Menser) Laughery. Kenneth passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 1982. At that time Margaret became the principal owner and Sole Proprietor. They incorporated in 1989 as Menser Inc. Margaret Menser continued as the President with Todd Menser as Vice President and Marilyn Laughery as Secretary/Treasurer. They continued to grow the company at the West Main Street family home until 2000 when construction was complete of a 7,500 square foot building at 147 Plumber Street in Somerset. A 1,500 square foot showroom and retail sales counter allowed Menser Inc. to grow and better serve their customers. Margaret still visits the office on a regular business and offers sage advice, as does Todd and Marilyn. Matthew and Jennifer are working to add more products to our warehouse to better serve our retail customers. We have a large selection of plumbing and heating, installation materials, repair parts, fixtures, pipe and fittings.

We intend to continue to grow the business and extend the excellent reputation that proceeds us over the past 115 years. We hope that the company will continue to the fifth generation, our children Preston and Kaitlyn Bittinger.

We are continually upgrading our showroom to display the newest kitchen and bathroom products from companies like Moen, Aker, and American Standard. We are now a Bertch cabinetry distributer for vanities and

countertops. We have also become a Generac generator dealer as well as a RapidAir compressed air piping dealer. We are constantly exploring new business opportunities to better serve our customers and grow our business. We also continue strengthen our relationships with our heating and air conditioning manufacturers. We continue to be a Bryant dealer for heating and air conditioning and train our technicians on the products to be more efficient and create a better quality job.

Matthew is extremely particular about the quality of his work and only accepts the best out of each of our technicians. We provide each of our technicians with continued product training to be up to date on troubleshooting and installation techniques as well as safety training. Matthew said “We do whatever it takes to get the job done. We continue to upgrade our tools and equipment to better serve each of our customers. For example, our sewer camera and locator. We can utilize the sewer camera to see inside the sewer pipes to isolate problems.”

Menser Inc has six full time and three part time employees, with technicians on call 24-hours a day. The showroom, retail parts counter, and office is open Monday through Friday. We are looking to hire qualified technicians with training and experience. We are expanding our service area with our commercial construction. We value these and all customers and strive to provide the best service and quality job.
